Rare Vintage Early KA-BAR Baby Grizzly w/ Stag
[BABY-GRIZZ]

Rare Vintage American Made KABAR "Baby Grizzly" with Stag

1923-1951 era piece with a 3 5/8" Drop Point Carbon Steel Blade (Blade is normally 3 15/16", so this blade shows significant shortage from use. Blade is normally marked "KABAR" on the front of the tang; (this model's tang stamp has all but disappeared except for the letter "B" which you can faintly make out with a magnifier). Blade shows some heavy staining and pitting.

Features Genuine Stag Handles with Nickel Silver Bolsters and brass liners. Measures 4 1/2" Closed. Fair condition. Blade tip seats below the liners. Action is good. The backspring is the kick spring, so you have to hold the Baby Grizz so your hand does not wrap around the backspring when opening. Some find that using their left hand to open this knife is easier if they are right handed.

Lockup is excellent. Extreme rarity. Hard to compare it to others, as there just aren't many of this model out there. (This model would be a 9 on a scale of 1-10 on AIK's rarity scale).

From 1923-1951, Union Cutlery Co or KABAR made the most heavy duty knives during this time frame. KA-BAR switchblades were made for the mid to upper end of the sporting market and were much better built than the other vintage American models. KA-BAR produced a larger switchblade hunting model called the Grizzly, and a scaled down version of the Grizzly called the  Baby Grizzly, which is what we have here. There is also a third model which was smaller than this model.

When these early Ka-bar models were made, few could afford them, as they were high dollar back then, thus there are fewer out there to collect.

We've only had this model offered a couple of times since AIK started selling switchblades in the 80's. (That tells you that they are extremely rare) . Includes a custom zippered pouch..
