Sam Stoner (Outback Forge) Scottsville, KY Vest Bowie / Fighter with Sambar Stag Handles, Damascus and Titanium Finger Guard

A rarity among custom knifemakers in that he is Old Order Mennonite and does not use any electricity or motors in his shop, all of Sam's equipment is connected to pulleys and belts on a overhead drive shaft which is powered by two large horses walking on a treadmill.

Instead of forging his blades in a gas furnace he uses a hand crank coal fired forge. (which provides for a more even and adjustable air flow).

Think about it: Most of us are inconvenienced by a couple of hours of no electricity; whereas it is hard to imagine running a complete knife shop without electric.

This "Vest Bowie" is superbly constructed and features a 5 3/4" Blade made of 21 layers of 1080 and 15n20 Tool Steels forge welded together. Steels are twisted and flattened before being hammered to shape the blade. Blade has a differential heat treat that adds toughness to the edge. The perfect sized "Vest Bowie" that doubles as a superb field knife that will not weigh you down. Features Gorgeous Sambar Stag Handles secured with copper pins.  Overall length is 10 1/8". 6AL4V Titanium finger guard with a Lightining Strike finish.

The extra heavy duty leather sheath is also Amish Made by Sam's wife and Daughters. Blade tang is marked with the maker's initials SS. The perfect piece for reenactors, renaissance or rendezvous meets, or those who want a blade made the traditional/ true way (coal forged). Weighs 7.0 oz without the sheath and 11.1 oz with the sheath.

Includes a handwritten letter describing the construction from Sam. It's been nearly a year since we received any knives from Sam! Get one while you can!
