Sam Stoner Amish Coal Forged Tomahawk w/ Flame Enhanced Hickory
[SS-FLHW]

Sam Stoner  Outback Forge  "Camp Hawk"  Coal Forged Tomahawk with Flame Enhanced Hickory Wood Handle

Sam is a rarity among custom knifemakers in that he is an "Old Order Mennonite" (Swiss German and south German heritage who practice a lifestyle without some elements of modern technology, who dress plain and who have retained the old forms of worship, baptism and communion.) Sam does not use any electricity or motors in his shop.. All of his equipment is connected to pulleys and belts on a overhead drive shaft which is powered by two large horses walking on a treadmill. Instead of forging his blades in a gas furnace he uses a hand crank coal fired forge. (which provides for a more even and adjustable air flow).

This "Camp Hawk" is Hand Forged from 1" square 1080 Steel and features "Flame Enhanced" Hickory Wood Handles. (Handle appearance will vary as each piece is hand made).  Weight is approx 1lb 5oz, and makes for a superb Camp Ax that in Sam's words "is made for heavy use", and is nicely balanced for some "Hawk Throwin". (Back of the Hawk head can serve as a hammer). Overall length varies with each piece but averages 18 1/2"- 19"..

Head of the Tomahawk (varies with each individual piece), but measures from 5 3/4"-6 1/2" in length with a sharpened edge that varies from 2 1/2" to a 3" sharpened edge.. The perfect piece for reenactors, renaissance or rendezvous meets, serious campers, professional throwers, or those who want a "Hawk"  made the traditional true way (coal forged).  Sam is also a member of the ABS; (American Bladesmith Society).
