Extremely Rare Vintage American BOWIE KNIFE CO, Newark, NJ "FISHTAIL" Pattern Switchblade with "Root Beer" Colored Bakelite    Handles

The BOWIE KNIFE CO was a very obscure switchblade company that was located in Newark, NJ. The Brand was made in the USA between 1945-1950. They had one pattern, (a fishtail pattern), that was made in three colors; creme, root beer, and black. . These are extremely hard to find.  This model   features Checkered Brown Bakelite Handles.

Measures 4" closed. The 3 1/8" Mirror polished clip point blade shows some light staining and pitting and has been cleaned.  Tang is marked BOWIE KNIFE, N.J. (upside down), on the front side. No markings on the backside of the tang.   Checkered Bakelite Handles show some slight shrinkage. Brass liners. 

Sliding safety works. Action is excellent. Button is touchy.  Blade has good lockup with minor side/side & up/down play. Blade tip "seats" below the liners.  Overall a very good example of a very rare vintage American classic.  Includes a custom zippered pouch. Rare chance to obtain a real rarity.
